Hi [FIRSTNAME]
Welcome to the latest PBC eNewsletter.
A lot has happened since last time. We cellebrated our 16th Birthday in true Blues Club style with a cracking house band and a host of guests. If you weren't able to get to the party, have a listen to the PodCasts (parts 1 & 2) PodCasts.
We also celebrated NAIDOC Week with a special night featuring indigenous musicians. A good turnout witnessed a great night

Volunteer Gig Reviewer(s) Needed
We are urgently looking for someone with good
writing skills and a love of music to write a weekly review for each of
the club's gigs. This would suit a journalism student or graduate and
can be shared between a couple of reviewers (if necessary) so we can
cover each night effectively.
If you are interested in helping out, please contact us by email.
We need about 500-700 words each week - and of course you would receive a "by line" and a press pass to the club.
Tribute to Rory Gallagher - Tuesday 15 July
This year's Rory Gallagher Tribute Night will be something special - especially for the many local fans of this Irish Guitar 'god'.
Coordinator Gary Cox, who is himself a huge fan of Rory's work, has scoured the archives for something a little bit different.
This show will look at the life of Rory Gallagher from a young
boy growing up in Ballyshannon, where he was born, and Cork, where he
was raised. It will look at his musical influences from the enevitable
traditional Irish music that would have been a part of his early
childhood, through to the times when he listened to Lonnie Donegan,
Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Muddy Waters and many other early blues and
roots influences.
Reciprocal deal for PBS and PJS members
Following negotiations between the Perth Jazz Society and the Perth Blues Club, members of both clubs now have reciprocal rights of entry - ie, PBC members pay member's entry fee to PJS and vice-versa.
So if you find yourself at a loose end on a Monday Night, you can now mosey on down to the PJS to hear some fine jazz. But don't forget your PBC Membership Card or you'll have to pay full price.
Guitar Legend Bo Diddley Dies
By Doug Levine, Washington
02 June 2008
Early rock 'n' roll guitar wizard Bo
Diddley died near Jacksonville, Florida, Monday, 2 June, of heart
failure. He was 79 years old. One of the most primitive of the early
rockers, Bo took the blues and folk music of his native Mississippi and
combined them with Latin American and African rhythms to come up with
his trademark "hambone" beat. Voice of America's Doug Levine tells us more about the
career of Bo Diddley.

New CD from Paul Greene
Paul Greene has sold nearly 30,000 albums (an impressive amount in his native
Australia), but you won't see his name on any commercial charts, as he has taken a staunchly independent path that has led him on a journey
through countless festivals, bar rooms and concert halls across
Australia.
On Tuesday 12 August, Paul will return to the Perth Blues Club to showcase his new CD.

Earlier start for winter gigs
At a recent meeting, your committee decided that from June 1st 2008, the club would start half-an-hour earlier - doors open 7.30pm, show starts 8.00pm and ends approx 11.30pm.
Patrons will still be able to stay behind until normal closing time if they wish, but this time change gives an opportunity to those who usually leave after the second act (around 10.45pm), to enjoy some of the final act.
Patrons will also be able to order meals from the Charles Hotel Restaurant, prior to the show and up to 9.00pm, so why not make a night of it and enjoy a good meal followed by your favourite music.
Festival of the Fret
Guitar Raffle
Plans are under way for this year's Festival of the Fret - and annual event that celebrates the guitar in all its variations. As usual, the event will feature a house band, with a host of guest guitarists, each keen to show off their particular style.
Coupled with the event, the club is planning to run another guitar raffle (following the success of last year's) and to draw the
winning ticket on that night.

Information for Bands/Artists
We're always looking for new and upcoming blues and roots artists who might be interested in playing at the Perth Blues Club. With this in mind, we've put together a page of information for bands and artists. Take a look and send in your expression of interest so the committee can check out what you're doing and maybe offer you a gig.
In this section, you will find everything you need to make your gig at the Perth Blues Club as successful as possible. If you're not yet booked and would like the opportunity to perform Live @ the PBC, please go to our expression of interest page.
Live @ the PBC Podcasts
Each week we plan to bring you a PodCast - the idea being to showcase the artists that appear at the club as well as
promote the club to a wider audience. Interspersed with the music -
recorded with all the atmosphere of the club - will be interviews with
the artists. The PodCasts are streamed from the PBC website or are available for FREE download from - subscribe now.
Sponsorship
In order to host the large PodCast files, we're looking for a sponsor to provide some server space. The sponsor will receive a number of advertising spots during the poscast as well as on-site banners linked to their website or email address.
If you are interested in sponsoring this exciting new venture - or know someone else who might be - please contact us.
