The Gary Cox Band was born in 2005 after Gary stumbled across Malcolm Skinner Vocals and Bass) at a jam session and the decided to form a band. Their hope was to treat a pub gig more like it was a concert and really pull out the stops.Finding the right drummer was proving a problem, until Gary found Wayne Antioch and he fitted the bill. The band rehearsed solidly for months before debuting at the Perth Blues Club for a Rory Gallagher Tribute night 14/6/2005. Such was the success of that night that it continued as an annual event for several yearsSubsequently, they've been gigging regularly, including a great set of gigs at the Bridgetown Blues Festival!

Their setlist comes from a mixed bag of well over 100 songs, covering all tastes, but still deeply blues-based. Some tunes are original, but the covers have the band's own special touches too. They regularly play the songs of Rory Gallagher, Ry Cooder, Eric Clapton, BB King, The Rolling Stones, Robert Johnson, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, and all the old blues greats. Sometimes, for some spice, they'll add a Frank Zappa, Steve Vai, Crowded House or Pink Floyd song into the mix.

In late 2018, local keyboard player Simon Cox was recruited and brought his extraordinary talent to the band, broadening its possibilities.

Currently, Gary and the Band have been performing Eric Clapton's 461 Ocean Boulevard - the latest in a long line of tribute shows which have also included Rory Gallagher.
