What makes Rose Carleo so
special is, ironically, the fact that she's just like everyone
else. Well, apart from the fact that she has a rare ability to take those
experiences we've all lived through, and turn them into remarkable songs
with a universal appeal. Then she opens her mouth and conveys the pain, the
passion and the emotion of her songs in a way that touches everyone who hears
them.
Originally from WA, Rose started
her career working with artists such as Norma Kelly and Rick Steele in the
vibrant Perth country music scene. This versatile artist also performed
backing vocals for Jimmy Barnes in 2000, and her trio "Sweet
Revenge" supported Vanessa Amorosi in Perth the same year.
Rose released her debut
self-titled EP in 2006. The first single Freedom, was released to radio
to great applause. The follow-up single was another self-penned track Whisper
(#45 on the Top 100 Country Hits chart), with accompanying film clip gracing
CMC and Virgin Blue In-flight screens.
Named the Silver Medallion winner
at the 2007 Qld Gold Medallion Awards for Best New Talent and a finalist in the
prestigious 2007 Toyota Starmaker - Rose has continued her journey upwards. Mid
2007 saw Rose release her debut album Everything I Need. The first
single taken from the album was Til I Find Me Again (#35 on the
CMC video chart), co-written with 2007 Golden Guitar winner Drew McAlister.
Drew also makes an appearance on
the album with the beautiful duet Sometimes You Just Know, which scored
a 2008 finalist nomination in the Golden Guitar Awards, and took out the 2008
TIARA Awards for Vocal Collaboration of the Year. The track Eyes
Don't Lie, also made No.1 on the Sounds Like Café chart. With
her current single It's Not Me, It's You at #68 Top
100 Country Hits chart, Rose is in full bloom. www.rosecarleo.com
As President of the Perth Blues
Club, Rick Steele has been a major factor in the development of the
blues and roots community in Perth and has shared both his passion and his
knowledge with many of WA's musicians over the years.
While he has lived much of his
life in Perth, Steele is originally from New Zealand, and is the son of a
preacher man quite literally. With his mother a piano teacher, Steele grew up
with music in his life. But it wasn't the "Lord's music" that
inspired him, it was the music of Elvis and The Beatles that set in motion the
Rick Steele we know today. His mother refused to buy the 12 year old a guitar,
as she was not thrilled about Elvis at all; she offered a violin or piano
lessons instead. Rick said bugger that, and promptly got a job to pay for his
own guitar.
After school, Rick decided to
become a teacher, figuring that his mother and sister were both teachers and
that "preaching and teaching go together really". It was while at
training school that he landed his first band, The Vision in the mid 1960s.
Since then, Rick has gone on to forge a successful career for himself, both as
a recording artist and member of various well-known outfits. He has been the
force behind the Perth Blues Club since its inception back in 1992.
Now he is also known for being
the father to two of the new generation of shining stars - Katie and Luke
Steele. But perhaps most importantly, Rick Steele has continued to preach and
to teach the beauty of music to all who will listen. www.myspace.com/ricksteelemusic

Doctor Charlie is a five piece local Blues Band.
Their songs consists of re-arranged Blues standards and lesser known Blues
tunes. The origins of the material span the spectrum of Blues from the early
pioneers such as Elmore James and Muddy Waters, through to the Modern style of
Stevie Ray Vaughan and The Rolling Stones.
The musical style of the band is essentially driving and
hard edged in the tradition of English blues Legend John Mayall.
Kevin "Charlie" Scott toured the UK extensively
during the '60s and '70s. Opening for many of the name acts of the day
including Fairport Convention, Manfred Mann and Joe Cocker, and was even once
supported by Pink Floyd!
Damon Carron has been playing the blues for nearly 20
years in and around the Perth music scene. So the first question many people
ask is, "Why haven't we heard of this guy?" Well "Damo"
likes to keep a low profile and let his music do the talking, which in these
times of media hype and spin doctoring doesn't seem to get an artist too far.
Hopefully all that is about to change, following the release
of his debut album at Bridgetown Blues Festival 2007. The CD features some
awesome blues playing from Damon on guitar, dobro, mandolin and 12-string.
Damo's influences include - Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Robin Trower, Jimmy
Page, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Deryk Trucks. He's a true talent
and not to be missed.
