Tuesday 20 NovemberOn The Level's CD LaunchFeaturing:
Tickets $10/$5 PBC Members On The Level is a very different band combining a mixture of original & unusual Boogie Blues/Rock covers. After a fantastic series of shows at last year's Bridgetown Blues Festival, which drew them a number of invitations to play at venues around the State, as well as the launch of their first CD, Blues in E, On the Level is well on track with the release on their latest CD, Bottom of the Bottle. Front man Dave Gillam's strong husky vibrative vocals suits this rockin boogie outfit. Hot Texan-boogie-lickin' guitarist Dave "Tex" Bates will keep you electrified, while Jim Awran on bass & Ian Bones Ironside on drums keep the fire burning. With Steve Connolly featuring as dedicated harp player, On The Level has a depth that many bands aspire to. On stage at 9.45pm
Cass Eager: her sound travels the gamut from soul to
blues, folk to gospel and roots to reggae. Her distinctive pipes and guitar
playing have drawn comparisons to everyone from Bonnie Raitt to Jack Johnson,
Nina Simone and Ben Harper with a hint of Janis Joplin always thrown in.
Despite these comparisons, ‘soul sister Cass is no pale imitation’
(NDL). She’s been described as ‘one of Sydney’s most gifted
singer/songwriters, whose refreshingly honest, raspy, almost Joplin-esque like
voice is hers alone, and whose eclectic songwriting will spellbind the
listener.’ (Drum Media). On stage, Cass is armed with an acoustic and lap
steel guitar, electric ukulele and stompbox. Jan Rynsaardt is something of a freak of nature in a
contemporary scene dominated by manufactured stars at one end and technically
over-processed bands at the other. His playing comes from that deep well of
sheer passion for the form that forged the likes of the young Eric Clapton,
Jimmy Page and the late great Jimi Hendrix. He's got the chops but he hasn't
forgotten that the sounds he's wrenching from that fretboard are intimations of
the soul within. And that's why he's not an imitation of those great players.
His playing is from the heart, the real deal, the genuine article, and that
means it's pure Rynsaardt. On stage @8.30pm Since their inception in 2004, Zoophyte have flirted with a variety of styles and sounds. The music Zoophyte has created over the years has always been a reflection of the collective tastes and experiences of its members at any point in time. At the moment, Zoophyte is a four-piece roots/rock band… occasionally they delve in to the realms of funk and reggae. Of course they love to play live, they like an audience that smiles and are always stoked to see them dance. Zoophyte are learning to love the road and want their music to take them to every corner of Terra Australis and beyond. Zoophyte is Cam Lee (vocals, 6 & 12 string guitar, didge, and percussion), James Johnson (guitar), Andrew Gilpin (bass) and James Majernik (drums). On stage @ 11pm Coming soon:
