Damon Carren has been playing the blues for nearly 20 years on the Perth music scene. So the first question many people ask is, "Why haven't we heard of this guy?" Well 'Damo', as his friends know him, likes to keep a low profile and let his music do the talking, which in these times of media hype and spin doctoring doesn't seem to get an artist too far. Hopefully all that is about to change, following the release of his debut album in late ’07.
The CD features some awesome blues playing from Damon on guitar, dobro, mandolin and 12-string. Damon's influences include -Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Robin Trower, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn and Derek Trucks.
Craig Sinclair combines crisp finger-style slide guitar playing with soulful vocals and contemporary original folk-blues songwriting. Based in Fremantle, the rootsy and distinctly Australian angle on these songs is always at the forefront. Craig’s playing style has been likened to blues players like Kelly Joe Phelps and Jeff Lang.
Craig’s debut solo album, Stones Beneath The Surface, was released in 2006 and launched in front of his home crowd to a packed house at Mojo's Music Bar. Since then it has been featured on RTR FM, received spot play on Triple J and extensive airplay on community radio stations around Australia. The song Downstream Blues was recently awarded "Best Blues Song" in the 2006 WA Folk Federation songwriting competition.
Barefoot Ballads, his new album, captures Craig in his element as a solo performer. The songs Rusting Armour and Lara Clare have been nominated as finalists in the 2007 WAM Song of the Year Competition in the folk/world and blues/roots categories respectively.
Local 4-piece outfit The Methyls will deliver a dose of their aromatic grooves incorporating the earthy power of early funk and the subtle moods of soul, served up with plenty of blues passion and a little quirk on the side.
With vocalist Deb ‘Methyl Ethyl' Miller on Hammond organ and electric pianos, Ralph Miller on bass, Pete Nessfield on guitar and vocals and Warren Wightman on drums, ‘The Methyls' cook up a feel good vibe with plenty of fire to inspire. You won't be able to resist The Methyl's charms.
