Perth Blues Club, Charles Hotel, 509 Charles Street, Dog Swamp
Tuesday 26 June, 2007Featuring:
Tickets $10/$5 PBC Members Alida Wright: Alida Wright is an exciting new vocalist and latest bright star to emerge from the WAAPA Jazz course. Hailing from outback NSW, her warm rich tone lends itself well to jazz and when her powerhouse vocals are unleashed, she is in her element when singing the blues. Inspired by vocalists such as Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington, and contemporary singers such as Etta James and Janis Joplin, Alida infuses each song with her own soulful blues tinged style, while remaining true to the song itself. In 2003 and 2005, Alida fronted the WAAPA Big Band and is featured on their 2005 CD release ‘Random Musings'. As a member of WAYJO (2004 - 2006) Alida has performed at the Perth Concert Hall supporting the likes of James Morrison. After graduating from WAAPA with a Bachelor of Music (Jazz) in 2005, Alida attended and performed at the annual IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators) conference in New York, with WAYJO. Alida has made several appearances at the Perth Jazz Society both with her Quintet, and in trio formation. Alida also made her debut at the York Jazz Festival in 2006, and has performed at a variety of venues around Perth with her trio. With her studies behind her, Alida is excited about further developing her original compositions and making an impact on the Perth music scene. The Vibrolators: Featuring a hotter than hot six piece line-up of Upright Bass, drums, piano, guitar and saxophone, The Vibrolators deliver supersonic swing, jumpin' jive and rockin' rhythms of the 40s and 50s.
Rockers and their widgies spill from the cars ready to
dance. The best music from the 40s & 50s will get all the hep cats
dancing in fantastic displays of aerial rock ‘n' roll, rockabilly & swing. With their unique, yet vintage sound, The Pockets pride themselves on working their groove for the crowds with minimum instrumentation suggesting their ‘back to basics; keep it simple and strong' approach is what has earned them the already solid reputation for a never fail, dig in, delivery. Debuting as a featured live act for Buttabeats promotions in 2006, The Pockets fast became a favourite for punters and industry persons alike, and were invited to do residencies at both the Norfolk Basement and Paddington Alehouse. They have since made many appearances at venues around Perth and Fremantle, cementing their reputation as a fantastic live band.
