Paul Gioia's 'Across The Tracks' Band shines the light on early blues and gospel icons who crossed the tracks between the club on Saturday and church on Sunday. Think Son House and Blind Willie Johnson through to Mavis Staples, Aretha Franklin and Mahalia Jackson, and composers like Thomas A. Dorsey who almost single-handedly created the black gospel movement.

The band features some of Perth's best jazz and blues performers in town, including Victoria Newton, Rose Parker, Matt Allen and Greg Brenton on vocals, Andrew Winton on guitar, powerhouse rhythm section Greg Brenton and Joe Southwell, and Paul on vocals, piano and organ.

This isn't just a music show: Paul also tells the story of this important time when blues crossed the tracks, moved into churches and gave birth to gospel.
