bluesguy_logo_trans.pngIt's Tuesday, 1st of July, and The Perth Blues Club is in party mode.

Depending on who you listen to, it's either The Club's 16th or 17th Birthday, subject to whether you take incorporation in to account.

Back in 1991, the originators initiated the birth of the PBC, but it took until 1992 for it all to formally fall in to place. So here we are, many years down the track, with a thriving and exciting Blues Club for Perth, one of the best in the country, if not the world.

The house band gets things underway and really sets the standard for the night. Pete Romano out front of a driving rhythm section, featuring Ace Follington and Roy Daniels, with Bob Patient on keyboards and Paul Felton on lead guitar.

Plenty of guest appearances throughout the night, including 'Cyclone' Tracy, club president Rick Steele and Zydecat Bill Rogers, with Wayne Freer on tuba and trombone and the evergreen Billy Blissett on keys. The music barely stopped for breath as we were taken on a roller-coaster of blues styles.

Kat Kinley and Jason Smith displayed their youthful Blues in a very tight set, showcasing some originals and Blues standards. These guys are heading off to the States in August and will hopefully pick up some gigs and interest whilst they are there.

If you didn't leave with a smile on your face, then you should check in to a Clinic to find out what's wrong with you !! Yet another amazing night of local talent showcasing the best Blues around. Who could ask more for their birthday !!

Check out the podcasts.

Derek Cromb is the presenter of "Play The Blues"
on 89.7 TWIN CITIES FM every Sunday night.
