Coordinator Gary Cox, who is himself a huge fan of Rory's work, has scoured the archives for something a little bit different. This show will look at the life of Rory Gallagher from a young boy growing up in Ballyshannon, where he was born, and Cork, where he was raised. It will look at his musical influences from the enevitable traditional Irish music that would have been a part of his early childhood, through to the times when he listened to Lonnie Donegan, Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, Muddy Waters and many other early blues and roots influences. The night will kick off with some very rare footage of Rory Gallagher in performance, followed by a duet of Irish music featuring Jo Byrne (Violin and Vocals) and Gary Cox (Accoustic Guitar and Vocals). The middle section of the night features drummer Al Kash - known to many PBC members for his time playing in Perth Bands. Al is visiting Perth from the USA for a week and wanted to jam at the Club with a few friends. Joining him will be Steve Guard, Richard Roberts, Jim Frazer, Roy Daniel, Bob Patient, John Meyer, Dave Hole and more ... After this, the Gary Cox Band - featuring Gary (Guitar, Synth & Vocals), Malcolm Skinner (Bass Guitar and Vocals) and Wayne Antioch (Drums) will be playing a set of the finest Gallagher tunes (and some related songs) journeying from the Taste years of the '60s, right through to his last album, Fresh Evidence. During the breaks there will be more rare performance video and rounding off the night is a surprise mystery guest who is said to play the most incredible version of Bullfrog Blues. Even if you're not a 100% Rory fan, you'll hear some amazing music and at the end of the evening you'll understand why, after his untimely death 11 years ago, Rory Gallagher still rocks the blues. |
