Now in it's 22nd year, WAM Song of the Year celebrates the best of WA's songwriting talent, offering a prize pool worth more than $30,000! 80 nominees in 16 categories have been announced and are now listed at wam.asn.au/songoftheyear - with winners announced at the Awards Night, held at the Fly By Night Musicians' Club, Wednesday 12 October.
This special night will be hosted by ABC Radio's 720 'Drive' presenter Russell Woolf and feature live performances by The Panda Band, The Big Old Bears, Bartlett Brothers and 2010 WAM Song of the Year Grand Prize winner Georgi Kay.
Presale award night tickets are strongly recommended for this annual sell out event - and are on sale now at www.flybynight.org or by calling (08) 9430 5976 during business hours. Presale tickets $23.50 inc BF or $28.50 at the door if available.
The Mental Health Commission of WA is once again the presentation partner for the competition and Mentally Healthy category sponsor. This special category allows songwriters to share songs dealing with positive messages relating to mental health. The message for WAM Song of the Year 2011 is "Music talks about mental health, so can you."
Support also comes from our major partner APRA|AMCOS; Grand Prize Sponsors: Berkleemusic, DiskBank, James Hewgill Music, Perfect Pitch Publishing, Poons Head Studio, RØDE Microphones; Media Partners: Drum Media, RTR FM 92.1, X-Press Magazine; Print Media Sponsor: The Sunday Times; and Online Sponsor: Perthnow.com.au(.)
