Lead by the pint sized lady with the tremendous voice, the 'Cyclone' Tracee Morrison Band performs a range of rocky soul tunes, predominantly from the 60s, 70's & 80s. Covering Classics from the Rolling Stones, Janis Joplin & Blues Brothers - just to mention a few, the band's lively performance on stage provides the perfect recipe for an enjoyable night out.

With vocal styles similar to the likes of Tina Turner and Janis Joplin, Tracee executes an element of fun within her performance, combining gutsy vocals and funky attitude as she shakes her tambourine. Occasionally, Tracee steps aside to give the guys in the band a chance to shine.

Unpretentious and sharing a love of music, 'Cyclone' Tracee enjoy herself on stage and the audience can't help but join in the fun. With the band's energetic fun personality, coupled with their talented musicianship, people are happy to both sit and have a few drinks and get up an have dance.

19-Twenty are two young guys (Kane Dennelly and Jason David) armed with nothing more than three chords and the truth.

Bringing their own blend of blues/roots/folk music, the appeal of 19-Twenty lies not only in their humour, but also in their energetic and intimate live shows. They have learnt their craft supporting some of Australia's greatest musicians including: Billy Thorpe, Ian Moss, Jeff Lang, Paul Greene and statesman Doug Macleod.

Changing from heartfelt acoustic tunes to the more in-your-face slide numbers, these two boys aim to please and provide something for everyone. Never forgetting the origins of blues music, 19-Twenty do not try and replicate the likes of RL Burnside, Leadbelly and Robert Johnson, but honour these greats by pushing blues music forward to a whole new generation.

43 Cambridge is a five piece band hailing from Walpole, Western Australia and is now based in Perth. As one of the hardest working bands around, they have clocked up more than six hundred gigs to date. The band has toured extensively throughout Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria, with the rest of the world in their sights.

43 Cambridge has never followed the trends. Instead writing music they love, and as it comes, with most songs evolving from long writing sessions. Some songs start with an idea or a riff, while others come from spontaneous jamming. 

Vocalist Ray describes his lyrics as, “Observations of a particular moment in time, whether it be personal, social or a view of current events”.  Rock is the best word to describe the band’s style however the songs can be very diverse at times. 

Musically, 43 Cambridge’s songs have both a light and dark side.  Sometimes reflective, sometimes honest Rock ’n Roll, other times bordering on psychedelia and with undeniable roots influences poking through.  Ray’s Vocal style has been described as a cross between Jim Morrison, Chris Cornell, and Ian Astbury.  The chorus’s are generally melodious and memorable.  Live, the band is a high energy outfit and larger than life, with extroverted vocalist Ray commanding attention with an almost punk attitude. HISTORY

1997: Four young men leave the security of their rural upbringing in the south western town of Walpole.  They rent a house in Leederville and searched for a drummer. So began the journey….

They joined a group of bands playing weekly shows at the now demolished Swanbourne Hotel with other upcoming Perth acts including The Sleepy Jackson, Nathan Gaunt & Jon Butler.

The guys play over a hundred shows a year, relentlessly touring around the nation with their own bus and P.A. including three Eastern states tours taking in NSW, VIC and S.A.

The band have had radio support from Triple J, RTR FM, ABC, Fremantle Radio and numerous other community stations around the country.   43 Cambridge has played with a vast array of bands over the years including You am I, Rollerball, The Offcuts, Jimmy Barnes, Spencer Tracy, Ian Moss, B Movie Heroes, Mental as Anything, Jon Butler, The Waifs, Effigy and hundreds more, often putting on their own showcases.

With songwriting skills beyond his age, Nik Thompson recorded his debut EP at Ampersonic studios in 2011, creating a diverse mix ranging from '60s rock to laid back indie, folk driven tunes, he is not one to be put in a box. Nik recieved great feedback, having two of his songs come in at 22 and 24 on Triple J's Unearthed High and '$4.50' peaking at No.8 on the Indie Charts, 'Beep' also was nominated for best youth song of the year in the WAM SOTY.

Following this initial success, Nik was keen to get out and play his music live, this is where his passion lies. Joining him are Forrest King on drums and John Yaxley on the bass guitar. These guys have brought a new dimension to the music, and the band's live gigs are getting great reviews.

The new line up has inspired Nik, acting as a catylst as he manically pumps out new tunes by the week.

The boys will be heading back into the studio, with an album coming out early next year.

The first single ‘COWBOY MOVIE' (from album ‘REBEL WITH A CAUSE') has received radio airplay right around the world in twenty-six countries, including charting in the European Country Music Top 40. Another song, ‘YELLOW MOON' has won the 2008 EMI Music Blues & Roots Song of the Year at the Q Song Awards. He has also been awarded the 2008 Southern Stars ‘Male Rising Star' Award.

8 Ball has performed several international tours, travelling to nine different countries. He is returning to Australia fresh from the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas in the USA. During his recent North American tour, he performed as a featured artist at Canadian Music Week. He's toured in Japan four times, where he headlined the popular Rokko Sun Music Festival. In 2008, he has played a string of dates in Singapore, the UK (including a live appearance on the BBC), Poland, and Finland. He has also recently returned from his third tour of Fiji, where he was employed by the Australian government, performing music as a cultural ambassador on behalf of DFAT and Austrade.

Coming from a farming community in Far North Queensland, 8 Ball Aitken is the oldest son of an impoverished family of twelve children. 8 Ball spent his adolescence on a banana plantation, living in a rough tobacco shed with resident rats, bats, snakes, and spiders as his sleeping companions. He started work as a farm labourer aged fifteen, doing back-breakingly hard work on the mango and banana plantations of the Atherton Tablelands, a man's work for a boy's pay. He had to help support his family with these wages.

When 8 Ball was nineteen years old, a radical conversation altered his life path. "I used to work on a farm all week, then party all weekend," he explains. "An Aboriginal elder from Townsville was visiting my town, and we were talking on Sunday morning after he had been watching me play guitar all weekend. He sat me down and told me off sternly - ‘I will be really disappointed if I visit next year and see you still here drinking and smoking, just wasting your talent and your life away," explains the ex-farm worker, recalling his labouring in the Atherton Tablelands fruit plantations as a young teenager. He packed his bags, grabbed his guitar, and hitch-hiked south to the Big Smoke of Brisbane. "This was a ‘time stands still', life-changing experience", adds 8 Ball. "From that point on, I have stayed true, and followed my dream of making music and taking it out to the people".

A2Z reggae first formed in 1982 when the only two reggae bands in Perth, The Answer and the Zeroes, both lost players and combined to fulfil commitments. The first of these was at The Stoned Crow in North Fremantle.

The success of this line-up was overwhelming and inspired the band to rehearse and keep it going. The growing audience meant the band had to find bigger venues and their Sunday session at the Swanbourne Hotel boasted capacity crowds (450) every Sunday for three years, until the America's Cup renovations forced them to move to the Mossy Park Hotel.

The band underwent many line-up changes, but Shirley Smith remained the constant. Her then husband, Russell Smith who was also a founding member, toured with the Goanna Band in '84, but returned to the band with his flawless guitar playing and vocal delivery.

A2Z reggae are well known for their vocal harmony having at least three and sometimes four lead singers, all complimenting each other and blending beautifully.

Playing a range of material from Bob Marley to Toots and the Maytals, the band became known as a "Stand Up For Your Rights" band and were asked to play at many functions from Land Rights to May Day for the Union movement, which they did for 10 years.

They recorded two cassettes during this time, which have become very rare collectors items. They supported many overseas acts such as Peter Tosh, The Soul Brothers and Mango Groove.

A2Z reggae remained one of Perth's top bands for almost 16 years when Shirley moved to Sydney in 1998.

In 2004, they headlined "The Old Day Out", which featured Perth's top bands through the '80s to a more-than-2000-strong dancing crowd.

Abbe May is a rock singer-songwriter from Perth, Australia. Known for her an extraordinary voice - a stirring howl borne on the melancholic balladry of a grieving heart. As confrontational as it is vulnerable, her characteristically anguished howl and moan conceals an undercurrent of hot-blooded intensity within the poetry and grunge-fuelled candour of her music.

Her debut album “Howl and Moan” was recorded over the summer of 2007 and mixed in the autumn of 2008. The album covers the themes of immense love and loss, and unleashed passion.

Supporting The Drones, CW Stoneking, Tim Rogers,The Waifs, Billy Bragg, The Cops, and Mia Dyson among others, the band’s festival record includes the West Coast Blues and Roots Festival, WAMi Festival, Wave Rock Weekender, In the Pines and Southbound.

Adam Hall and the Velvet Playboys is a six-piece Perth band dedicated to the performance of exciting live shows.

The music captures a mood reminiscent of the Rat Pack or Louis Prima in Las Vegas in the 50s- smooth swingin' jazz, rockin' blues and good ol' boogie woogie.

Their repotoire also features more contemporary music in a vein similar to artists as diverse as James Brown, Ray Charles & Harry Connick Jr.

Their debut album "I've Got News For You" was released in June 2007.

Is he Country, Rock, Pop, Blues or all of the above? Well, let’s leave that for you to decide!

Adam Toms grew up in rural Victoria, where he spent his teen years playing in cover bands and at solo acoustic gigs - this honed his skills as a guitar player and vocalist but left him with a desire to write and sing his own material and make a move to Melbourne.

Not long after making the move he teamed up with Aria award winning producer / engineer Doug Roberts - best known for his work with artists such as The Badloves, Chocolate Starfish & Boom Crash Opera, Doug introduced Adam to Peter Farnan (Boom Crash Opera) which proved to be a successful collaboration. The pair wrote and recorded many songs together spreading across many genres.

However, for Adam something was missing. He had always had many people suggest that his music leant in a more 'country rock/pop' vibe. Over the Easter of 2008 Adam had what he calls a 'Light bulb moment'. "I was listening over my old demo's one day and realised I have a bunch of material which was never written with the intent of a country rock/pop vibe but it became very clear. That is what I needed to be doing. It all made sense!"

Adam somehow mixes his love for artists like Keith Urban, Ben Harper, Eric Clapton, Brooks & Dunn, Ryan Adams and Billy Thorpe to create his own sound.

So with the direction finally decided Adam teamed up with Doug Roberts again and a great mix of muso's to record his first country rock project. Out of all the tracks recorded, four were chosen for his EP with the lead single, 6 Months Of Lovin You getting great exposure in the Australian market. His follow up single, Sugar Lips released late 2009 also received fantastic radio support and great rotation on CMC, RAGE and Chanel Ten’s ‘ Landed Music’ with the film clip.

In 2010 and 2011, Tomsy was finalist in the Victorian and National Country Music Awards in the Vic Male Vocalist section which for an artist still new to the genre so to speak is a great achievement.

In March 2010 Adam recorded more material with Golden Guitar Producer of the year Matt Fell. Again an all star cast off musicians was assembled and the result was the album Holding My Breath, of which the title track was played 160 times in one week on radio in Europe. The first single Too Crazy For Love was released to Radio and CMC late 2010 and had a huge amount of radio play across the nation as well as the film clip charting on CMC and played on RAGE as well as Southern Cross 10 TV program 'Landed Music'.

The second single Fighting For hit radio back in May.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Al Kash began his drumming career at the age of 15 in Perth, Australia. The family's move from the United States to Australia in 1964, aboard a merchant ship, was initially delayed for six weeks when Al underwent an emergency appendectomy. While recovering, Al began to "hear drums," a notion his mother dismissed as a reaction to pain medication. Soon after, however, Al abandoned bass guitar and began working as a professional drummer in Perth.

A self-taught drummer, Al began playing in a variety of Perth bands, including an early stint with the Down Home Group, which may still hold the record, at 60? hours, for longest continuous playing by a West Australian band. Al's career also took him to Melbourne and Sydney, where he began playing with Blackfeather and recorded the highly acclaimed At the Mountains of Madness album.

Back in Perth, Al played and toured Australia with Fatty Lumpkin, Matt Taylor and Chain, Innocent Bystanders, Steve Tallis and renowned blues slide guitarist Dave Hole.

Returning to the United States, Al was a founding member of the Units/Fear of Strangers. He has also played and toured with Commander Cody, Billy C. Farlow, Savoy Brown, Fly to France (later to become Blue Rodeo), Ellen McIllwaine, Dave Hole and Australian surf guitarist Ben Rogers and Instrumental Asylum, whose most recent reverb rehab CD features Al reprising his role as drummer on Blackfeather's hit Seasons of Change.

Today in New York, Al plays with Rumdummies, the Last Conspirators, Mark Emanatian and Folding Sky, and Axe Iron Suns -- an improv psychedelic band that allows Al to indulge his life-long interest in free and spontaneous musical improvisation. He has also produced a solo CD entitled The Calling.

Alison Penney is a piano player, vocalist and writer of considerable regard and her experience in the blues is extensive.

Between her bands: Ali Penney and The Money Makers, Chris Mawer Band, The Vibrolators, Wild Rice, Drybones, The Midnight Ramblers, she has opened for an impressive list of legends including Johnnie Johnson, Chris Cain, Lucinda Williams, Cephas And Wiggins, The Tailgaitors, Chris Wilson and Vhoom Schwing with Sweet Felicia, Janet Levy and Roscoe Clarke

She is a professional musician and has been performing, recording, and composing music in bands for over 15 years. These bands also include The Hippos, Fiona Boyes, Lil' Fi, Wayne Jury and Alison Penney Duo, Supro as well as international acts such as Andrew Jones (Freddy King’s guitarist) and Kid Bangham (Fabulous Thunderbirds), Lloyd Jones and Todd Sharpville. She has also recorded with Fiona Boyes.

Lately Alison has had the great fortune of playing in Chris Mawer's Band. Last year she recorded with those West Coast hipsters, The Vibrolators.

Her own band Ali Penney and The Money Makers - who won The Sydney Blues Society Performer of the Year 2009 - recently recorded their 1st album, and in January 2010 flew off to Memphis to compete in the International Blues Challenge.

Alison lists her influences as Dr John, Professor Longhair, Taj Mahal, James Booker, Oscar Peterson, The Meters, Donny Hathaway, Allen Toussaint, Miss Honey, Wynton Kelly, Jon Cleary, and more.

Perth Blues Club’s 9th annual memorial showcase - A Rhythm and Blues Variety Revue - takes place at the Astor Theatre in Perth on Friday June 29th 2012.

Well known for his work with The Bayou Brothers, Andrew Morgan (vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica, washboard, kazoo, jaw harp) was raised in New Zealand after leaving England as a young child.

One of his earliest musical ventures was a short stint as lead guitarist for New Zealand band, Rus L'Roq & The Romantics, led by a young chap named Russell Crowe. Unfortunately Russell wasn't a big fan of Andrew’s overdriven guitar sound and citing musical differences, Andrew, who to this day still bears the emotional scars, was given his marching orders.

Who was to know back in those early days that the budding lead guitarist possessed a voice that can travel effortlessly from the growl of Son House to the smooth country croon of Willie Nelson? Certainly not Rusty Crowe!

Andrew is an independent solo artist combining acoustic guitar, lap slide, dobro and seven-string lap guitar/bass (the Wintonbeast), with hollers and stomps to provide an engaging and authentic performance.

Andrew's sound has been likened to a cross between Ben Harper, Sting, Kelly-Joe Phelps and Harry Manx. His performances are driven by infectious rhythms, stunning slide, bluesy vocals, quirky lyrics and storytelling.

2006 saw Andrew tour Australia for three months, play at numerous festivals, events and radio broadcasts, and take out first place in the Folk/Acoustic category of the Australian Songwriter's Association awards (as well as the award for best live performance at the awards night!). Andrew was a feature artist on ABC Radio National's Music Deli program, and placed in the top 10 in the instrumental category of the MusicOz awards.

He has just been nominated for a West Australian Music Industry award for best blues/roots artist. His third album ‘The Decompression Chamber' (2006) received critical acclaim. This is a man mad about slide guitars who will do just about anything to get them on stage! Karen Winton, providing sweet harmonies and percussion, accompanies Andrew for parts of his show.

Vocalist and WAAPA lecturer Annie Neil is a stalwart in the Perth Jazz scene. Annie is a founding member of the vocal group the "Jazz Divas" and was also the female lead in the rock musical "Hair", both in Australia and New Zealand, following her role as the female lead in the London Production of "Jesus Christ Superstar".

She was the vocal coach on the WA production of "Bran Nue Dae" and has performed on several occasions with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra.

Annie has been involved in recording work in London and turned with Steely Dan and Kikki Dee. She had a number one hit with her own group Fancy in the USA and has worked as a backing vocalist for artists such as Denis Waterman (soundtrack of Minder), Charles Aznavour, Roger Daltry, Jack Bruce, Sheena Easton and a multitude of others. Annie has appeared in the Dublin Theatre Festival opposite Colm Wilkinson (Adam and Eve).

Early in her career she appeared in the BBC TV series "We The Accused", opposite Ian Holm shortly before returning to Australia, Annie recorded the soundtrack for the series "Shaka Zulu". She declined the offer to appear in the West End stage production to return to Australia with her son.

Since returning to Australia, Annie has performed with many visiting artists such as Lou Rawls, Tom Jones, Dionne Warwick, Joe Longthorne and James Brown.

Austin Busch has broken into the blues and roots scene bringing with him a fresh sound all of his own. His individual approach combines acoustic and lap guitars, drums, double base and violin. This combined with his soulful vocals creates a blues inspired gypsy shindig that leaves those present feeling they have witnessed something refreshingly new. Austin's performances show a versatility of styles from soulful blues ballads to gypsy reggae. The energy and joy that Austin and his band put into their set is clear, you definitely feel like you are sharing in the fun. All this being said it is something that you have to experience for yourself.

As well as local gigs Austin's presence at music festivals has been steadily growing over the last few years. These have included the much-loved Queenscliff music festival, Torquay Blues Explosion, Good Seed Festival, Guilford Blues&Roots Explosion and many more. To this substantial list can be added a two-month tour of W.A in early 2007.

His presence on the music scene has been recognised by some of the finest. He has supported artists such as Jeff Lang, Bob Brozman, Dallas Frasca, Carus and the True Believers, The Exploders and Liz Stringer to name a few. He has also been a regular performer on the famous Queenscliff Blues Train alongside artists such as Chris Wilson, Chubby Rae & the Elevators and Jimi Hocking.

Austin's independent debut EP Frame of Mind was released in 2006, and has airplay on both Triple J and PBS. His latest recording Live at Fitzroy features Austin with his band.

Awesome Wells: Much has been made of the new breed of Perth rock musicians who are putting our city on the world's musical map, but one now-bluesman did just that over 30 years ago.

Lindsay Wells says on his career, "I've been trying for a long time and I love it, it comes from my heart and when it does that I guess you've got a chance."

The Band of Angels Gospel Choir is an unconventional community choir that sings predominantly African and African American Gospel Music with a sprinkling of blues, soul, jazz, contemporary spiritual songs and more.

It is made up of people from all walks of life, countries and beliefs who love gospel music. The choir aims to bring spirit, passion and accuracy to itsinterpretation of this rich musical tradition.

Born and raised in Pittsburgh PA, Barbara Blue has had the blues since the day she was born.  Now residing in Memphis, Tennessee, she has been performing on Beale Street 13 years, five nights a week.

Barbara has also performed alongside various top notch artists such as Taj Mahal & The Phantom Blues Band, the late Jeff Healey, Marcia Ball, Delbert McClinton, Maceo Parker, Al Jackson, Pinetop Perkins, James Cotton, Steady Rollin’ Bob Margolin, Tab Benoit, Fiona Boyes, Corey Harris, Sean Costello, The Nighthawks, Big Mike Griffin, Candye Kane, Zack Harmon, Trudy Lynn, Carol Fran & Gaye Adegbaloba. From Pittsburgh to Detroit to Chicago, Boston, New Orleans, LA, KC, Hawaii, Memphis, Australia, Canada, England, Norway, Aruba and The Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise, the journey continues.

Since forming her own band in 1989, Barbara has been progressing right up blues alley. With the release of her debut CD, Out Of The Blue, Barbara reached a wider audience of blues lovers worldwide.

These days Barbara’s understanding and cultivation of the blues is deeper and richer than ever. Her discography now boasts three additional recordings with Taj Mahal’s world renowned Phantom Blues Band - 2002’s Sell My Jewellery, 2004’s Memphis 3^rd & Beale and 2006’s Love Money Can’t Buy.  A 2007 import, By Popular Demand, has been released by Shout Records. It’s a tasty compilation, the first of its kind featuring Barbara’s recordings and a 12-page colour booklet.

2008 saw the much-anticipated release of Barbara Blue & Nat Kerr’s first live release, recorded at Silky O’Sullivan's on Beale Street, across three nights with Memphis’ world renowned female engineer, Dawn Hopkins. There was such a good groove, vibe and funk goin’ on that three live volumes were released.

Barbara has just released her ninth CD, Royal Blue, a tribute to the late great Willie Mitchell.

Bartlett Brothers is an Indigenous Blues/Rock Band from Perth Western Australia.

At the heart of the band are singer songwriters Phil & Jason Bartlett. Both are multi-instrumentalist gifted by the gods with voices from heaven.

Together they create soulful rootsy pop rock sounds with soaring harmonies. Their music & lyrics are infused with the colours and themes of their home country and indigenous heritage They are backed by the pounding complex beats of younger brother Azrael and the fluid basslines of honourary brother Rob Findlay. 

Bayou Brothers serve the listener with a ‘gumbo' of sounds delivered with a base of authenticity and flavoured by creative interpretation.

Richard Woollett - National steel guitar, Dobro, acoustic guitar, electric lap steel guitar. Richard was a bass player in a previous musical life. Taking a job on a remote minesite in East Kalimantan Indonesia in 1990, he like most of his co workers fell into the habit of many a long evening propping up the company bar after working hours.
Impetuous of character he decided one day while on leave back in Australia, that learning to play slide guitar on the shiny new Dobro he had noticed in the window of Zenith music would be a constructive alternative to those long nights in the bar.
Richards first public performance on the slide guitar was in the Kabo Club, Sangatta, Borneo, accompanying North Queensland banjo picker Doug Stubbs on raucous versions of mule skinner blues and Oh lordy pick a bale of cotton, both of which were to become part of the future Bayou Brothers repertoire. The Dobro has since been replaced by Richards beloved National style O guitar, and the Fender bass has long been forgotten.

Andrew Morgan - Vocals, acoustic guitar, harmonica, washboard, kazoo, jaw harp.
Andrew was raised in New Zealand after leaving England as a young child. One of Andrews earliest musical ventures was a short stint as lead guitarist for New Zealand band Rus L'Roq and the Romantics, led by a young chap named Russell Crowe. Unfortunately Russell wasn't a big fan of Andrews overdriven guitar sound and citing musical differences Andrew, who to this day still bears the emotional scars was given his marching orders.

Who was to know back in those early days that the budding lead guitarist possessed a voice that can travel effortlessly from the growl of Son House to the smooth country croon of Willie Nelson. The Bayou Brothers combine the cool tones of blues, country and gospel to deliver a sound they fondly call "Deliverence Meets Delta".

Ben Witt is something of a natural, having started playing guitar at age 9. He has been performing professionally since the age of 14 when he first shared the stage at The Perth Blues Club with local legend Ivan Zar, having met Ivan six months earlier.

It was very soon after their first meeting that they began playing together, Ivan recognising Ben's natural talent and instinct for blues music and taking on the role of mentor to the talented youngster.

Together with Ivan, Ben released Live at the Perth Blues Club in 2003 and in the same year released his own Thunderstorm Blues.

Ben's passion for listening to and learning from all genres of music has seen his playing expand from blues to jazz to rock and the classical music of India.

Equally at home singing acoustic ballads or revving up the Stratocaster. Ben is currently 18 years old and studying contemporary music at WA Academy of Performing Arts.

His influences include Buddy Guy, Bob Dylan, Robert Johnson, Led Zeppelin, Billie Holiday, Radiohead, Tea Party, Jeff Buckley, Miles Davis, Nathan Gaunt.

Ben's current band is called 'The Chemist', but he will be playing solo tonight.

Offering an effortless blend of soul, blues, reggae and acoustic folk, indigenous performer Benny Walker is without doubt one of Australia’s most promising new talents. His intimate, eloquent songwriting is complemented by a rich and soulful voice which tells of the trouble, strife and wonder of everyday life. Born and bred in the regional Victorian town of Echuca, Walker watched his father and both grandfathers play in bands his whole life, music always seemed like the natural path for Benny to follow. With an independent self-titled debut under his belt, the current EP, Summer Sun, in late 2010.

Recently formed out of the a variety of members from some of Perth's best live bands, Big Al & the Deacons is a four-piece combo delivering high intensity blues and roots music. Featuring a scorching rhythm section, bellowing baritone, twangin' guitar, and Big Al on the mic, the lads will take you from zero to 100 in about 5 seconds flat!

Damian “Drac” Denyer – Baritone Saxophone

While his origins are still somewhat of a mystery, Drac is a musical chameleon having played Blues, Jazz, Jump, Bebop, Funk, Ska, Reggae, Folk, Country, Hard Rock and Metal in fact there isn’t much he hasn’t played*. Most notably a member of hi profile Perth bands The Vibrolators, Jus’ Jump (others??), Drac comes complete with balloon lungs, freaky lips and a fully operational spit dump valve!

*Drac hasn’t played in tune as far as we know…

Jeff “Thylacine” Thickett – Double Bass

Rare but not extinct, The Thylacine is a nocturnal beast who usually hides in the corner keeping a steady watch over all things in the lower register…a master of the modes…a connoisseur of chords…in his spare time he enjoys hunting small animals and stuffing his pouch!

Matty Hanson – Drums

Not as crusty as his fellow band members, this Young Gun is set to stun with an arsenal of deadly chops…despite his youth, Matt has already played around the Perth scene and beyond for a number of years most notably with Rusty & The Dragstrip Trio, The Rusty Pinto Combo, Johnny Law & The Pistol Packin' Daddies, The Isolites, and more!). Whether it’s a rumba, a shuffle or a swing, Matt will have you shakin’ your bacon…all night long!

Big Al James – Guitar/Vocal

What can be said about Big Al? Not much really…a basic Blues pig from way back with a penchant for cool grooves and crazy archtop guitar! If you like your guitar chops flame grilled and well done then Big Al is your man!
 

Big Boss Beaver is a swing/jump Chicago style, five piece blues band that also likes to cut across the genre to play lively Texas shuffle and modern rhythm and blues numbers.

The band has been playing at corporate, hotel and party functions for about 10 years and was a finalist in the WAMI awards for original compositions and performance in the not too distant past.

BBB features Dick Beaver (harmonica, vocals and steel guitar), Dave Joske (guitar and vocals), Mike Weise (saxophones), Clive O'Leary (drums) and John Hunter (bass).

Big Joe Louis was born in Jamaica, West Indies, and moved to the UK during the 1970s.

The Blues Kings were formed 18 years ago and have taken their special kind of real down-home Blues to venues the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland and with great success in virtually every country in Western Europe and Scandinavia.

1998 and 1999 brought two invitations to play in the USA, leading to exceptional reviews. A groundbreaking tour of Norway and Russia (filmed for Russian TV) in October 1993 brought blues to the north of Russia for the first time and a 1996 trip to Bulgaria was enthusiastically received.

Big Joe Louis And His Blues Kings have recorded radio and TV sessions worldwide and the last two years have seen trips to South Africa, Poland, Finland, France, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Egypt as well as two visits to the Caribbean for the Mustique Blues Festival.

Bill Blissett is a survivor of the '60s. 

He toured the UK and Europe with many bands and artists including Screaming Lord Sutch and Marty Wilde. He also toured with Blues By Five, a band with a European hit on Decca Records.

After moving to Australia he toured extensively including tours to the Far East with the popular showband, The Troupadores.

More recently, he has worked with Powershift, recorded and toured Europe with Jeff St John and currently plays keyboard with On The Level, a blues & boogie band as well as perform ing with a reformed Troupadores.

Bill is also the voice and keys of Ray Charles in the highly successful "What'd I Say" tribute show.
 

As a teenager in the era of Them, Rolling Stones, The Animals, Spencer Davis, Manfred Mann, Paul Butterfield etc., Billy Rogers was inspired to start singing and playing harmonica (and later saxophone) and sought the roots of this powerful music - Ray Charles, James Brown, Howlin Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, Fats Domino - roots that have continued to burn and have been essential baggage through three decades of R'n'B and Rock & Roll bands. Most of the music which really hits me can be traced back to the southern states of USA.

His 'apprenticeship' was with Perth bands Roadband (a quasi jug band playing anything from Bo Carter to Chuck Berry) and then Last Chance Cafe (influenced largely by the New Orleans style of Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, Dr John etc), who moved to Melbourne in the mid-70s and began to write and perform their own songs.

These influences and a passion for live performance led to Billy being recruited as a front man by pop-rock hit makers Dragon, in an attempt to develop some R'n'B muscle in Marc Hunter's absence of 1979; recording several singles and an album, as well as touring extensively throughout Australia and New Zealand. A short stint as saxophone player with John Paul Young's All Stars followed, culminating in a nationwide tour as support to Fleetwood Mac in 1980, at the height of their career.

Cold Chisel, also at their most rampant, hired Billy as a sax player for their notorious nationwide 'Youth in Asia' Tour - several concerts of which were recorded in both Sydney and Melbourne, resulting in the triple platinum Swingshift live album. Studio sessions followed - Chisel's Twentieth Century album (including the hit 'Saturday Night') and Don Walker's soundtrack to the Freedom movie.

Returning to Perth in the early '80', Billy continued to play in a succession of bands including The Outlaws, The Essentials, A2Z and The Hallucinations - contributing as singer, songwriter and playing saxophone, harmonica, percussion and keyboard.

Then, in 1992, Lucky Oceans approached him with the idea of starting a band to play some Zydeco. With Lucky, Kent and Billy as founders, the Zydecats began. Between them, many styles of music have been thrown in the pot, including all kinds of Blues (country, Chicago, New Orleans & Jump Blues), R'n'B, Soul, Western Swing, Country, Rockabilly, Rock'n'Roll, Cajun and Zydeco.

"Joining the Zydecats has been like coming home to me. Learning to play some new styles, particularly Cajun and Zydeco, as well as some of my first loves - New Orleans music, blues and soul. It has been a fertile environment for writing (with 3 songwriters), and singing, with 3 lead vocalists and 5 contributors to arrangements. Being a member of a good band has always been my aim and this is the best band I've ever been in."

Billy is a regular at the Perth Blues Club, taking every opportunity to augment a variety of bands with his powerful sax playing. He is also one of the founding members of The Charlie Brown Brass Band, with trumpeter and multi-instramentalist Wayne Freer.

Dave Brewer is one of Perth's most prolific guitarists, and with a successful career throughout Australia he is well known as one of the great guitar Bluesmen of Australia.?

Dave began playing with Perth Blues band 'The Elks' and, after they shifted base to Sydney, later joined the Soul/R&B band 'The Dynamic Hepnotics'.

Throughout the 1990s, Dave's primary focus was the 'Mighty Reapers', where they would go on to release five CDs for the Rufus Records label, as well as many performances throughout the East Coast.

Dave was a founding member of 'The Catholics' performing with this outfit on numerous Australian national tours, two tours to Canada and one throughout Europe, where the band performed at both the Montreal and North Sea Jazz Festivals.

Dave moved back to his hometown of Perth in 2000 and has since been playing regularly with ' "Diamond" Dave and the DooDaddies', Lucky Oceans, Jonathon Cope, Supremely Motown and the Sue Bluck Quintet, as well as various local blues outfits.

Shane Campbel formed The Blackmarket Band in 1998 inviting Phil to join in 2005. The band started doing original music and introduced select cover songs that complimented our style. There was a change of members in early 2011, when Dave Flowers and Eddie Powell were invited to join in the fun. Blackmarket's mix of Blues, Funk and Rock makes for a very unique band.

Blind Lemon have evolved from hardworking journeymen to one of SE Qld’s most respected acts. The fluid and funky Blind Lemon engine room has established an enviable platform for the twin peaks of singer/dynamic harp player Jamie Symons and Strat-wrangler Harvey to work their magic.
Deriving elements from the earthy sounds of the 1940s and ‘50s blues masters, the magic of ‘90s & current crop of successful blues and roots artists, soulful feel of ‘60s and ‘70s British blues and a new twist on electric harmonica to make your ears prick up.
They are taking it a step up and to the left.
Blind Lemon has wowed the fans at music festivals up and down the East Coast including Byron Bay Blues and Roots, and at the Gympie Music Muster. In May 2010 their electric live performances of their album Drinker’s Lament at Blues On Broadbeach (which they have appeared at since its inception in 2001) was a welcomed surprise to all those in attendance and added to the band's huge following.
In 2008 the band won the Blues Association of South East Queensland’s prestigious Performer of the Year award and as a result was a knockout
at the Australian Blues Music Festival in Goulburn early in 2009. Recently their songs ‘Sugar Box’, ‘Little Girl’ were highly commended in 2010 Q-Song awards.
With Australia wide airplay on triple J, the 4th album Drinkers’ Lament released 2010, has a blues foundation with a diverse edge featuring songs which are darker, edgier and they encompass all the drama and energy that is so evident in Blind Lemon’s live performances.

Blue Shaddy are, Neil (Jim) McClelland, guitar and vocals, Graham (Belly) McClelland, harmonica and percussion, Sandra McClelland Bass guitar, and Arun on drums and percussion.

Blue Shaddy began in the small town of Kellerberrin, in Western Australia's Wheatbelt back in 1989. The "Wheatbelt" region is a prime grain producing strip of land sweeping down the western coast of Australia from Geraldton to Esperance, about 1000 kilometres and extending inland for 500 kilometres. Kellerberrin is almost in the middle of this region. Here, wheat, sheep and flies are plentiful, and surprisingly enough for a small country town, it was also home to a number of working musicians, with whom Jim (founder of Blue Shaddy) began gigging regularly at the age of 17.

After several hundred gigs of cabaret and old time rock'n roll Jim was well honed and ready to take on the country with something of his own, and so enters Belly, the man with the metal sandwich. Born, bred, brainwashed (and burdened?!!) with the same musical vision, these two brothers began what is now an inseparable recipe that really does cook well. Throw in Sandy (a long time friend and country neighbour) on Bass guitar, and relocation to Perth, the state's capital, and this is Blue Shaddy.

Every year, before the start of the Harp Attack Show, the Perth Blues Club runs a blues harp workshop for anyone interested in learning to play this traditional blues instrument.

The workshops are free and participants should bring a C diatonic or C chromatic harmonica.

Harmonicas are inexpensive and can be purchased at any of Perth's professional music stores.

This is a very well-attended event, so be sure to arrive early.
