We are now on the lookout for some superstar volunteers to help us out at this year’s WAM Festival! The festival is an annual contemporary music event established to celebrate, showcase and develop West Australian Artists and Industry members. The program includes the 2 day WA Music Conference (WAMCon), WA Music Awards (WAMAwards) and a series of live showcases and performances by local Artists across metro and regional areas of the state (WAMFest). Each year the WA NAIDOC Music Awards recognises the incredible Indigenous talent in the WA music industry, and after an incredible evening of celebration and live performances, the 2019 winners have been announced! Fremantle’s newest venue Freo.Social played host on Friday night to this year’s WA NAIDOC Music Awards, which saw an incredible night of performances including a special surprise performance from nominee and Kalgoorlie based Hip Hop artist MissGenius. Other stellar performances on the night came from Cameron Wilkes, Indigo Ellis, Flewnt, Natasha Eldridge, The Struggling Kings and Phil Walley-Stack who also led the night emceeing the event. Following the success of the inaugural Girls Rock! WA camp in January, WAM extends applications for the second camp to take place in September, October 2019! The Girls Rock! program, which originated in­­­ the US and is now practised successfully around the globe, is a week-long day camp of instrumental instruction, band rehearsals, workshops, and fun activities designed to empower and inspire aspiring young female, trans, and non-binary musicians.
